If your child is in Stage 7, 8, or 9 of the Cambridge curriculum and you've been searching for revision help, you've probably come across Save My Exams. It's well-known, well-organised, and genuinely useful. But there's a catch that isn't obvious until you're already on the site: Save My Exams does not cover Cambridge Lower Secondary.

This isn't a gap in their quality — it's a gap in scope. Cambridge Lower Secondary is simply outside the market they serve. Understanding why helps you stop wasting time looking in the wrong place.

What Save My Exams actually covers

Save My Exams — scope

Save My Exams publishes topic notes, worked examples, past paper questions, and mark-scheme breakdowns for Cambridge IGCSE (typically ages 14–16), Cambridge International AS & A Level (ages 16–18), and equivalent UK qualifications including GCSE and A-Level.

Their Maths section covers IGCSE 0580 and 0607. Their Science sections cover IGCSE Biology (0610), Chemistry (0620), and Physics (0625). Computing is covered under IGCSE Computer Science (0478 and 0984).

These are excellent resources — clear explanations, reliable mark-scheme alignment, good topic organisation. For a student sitting IGCSE, Save My Exams is a strong choice. For a student in Cambridge Lower Secondary Stage 7, 8, or 9, the content simply doesn't exist on their platform.

The Cambridge qualification gap

Cambridge Assessment International Education runs two adjacent but distinct programmes:

The Lower Secondary Checkpoint uses entirely different syllabus codes, curriculum frameworks, and assessment structures. The Maths Checkpoint is based on framework 0862 — not on IGCSE Maths 0580. A resource built for 0580 will not accurately mirror what the 0862 mark scheme rewards or how the Checkpoint strands are organised.

Where IGCSE resources fall short for Stage 7–9

"The content might look similar on the surface — algebra is algebra. But the mark scheme, the command words, and the strand vocabulary are different enough that practising the wrong format is actively misleading."

There are four specific places where IGCSE-focused resources diverge from what a Cambridge Lower Secondary student needs:

1. Strand structure and reporting

Cambridge Checkpoint reports scores on a 0.0–6.0 scale per strand, not as a percentage or a letter grade. In Maths (0862), the strands are Number, Algebra, Geometry and Measure, and Statistics and Probability. IGCSE Maths doesn't map onto these strand labels — so studying using IGCSE topic lists doesn't help a student understand which of their Checkpoint strands is weak.

2. Command words

Cambridge uses a specific set of command words in assessments ("calculate", "show that", "describe", "explain", "state"). The weight given to each command word, and the expected response length, differs between Lower Secondary and IGCSE. A student practising IGCSE "explain" questions is calibrating to the wrong standard for Stage 9.

3. Science — separate assessments vs. integrated assessment

At IGCSE, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics are largely separate qualifications. At Lower Secondary, the Science Checkpoint (0893) is a combined assessment with Biology, Chemistry, and Physics strand scores reported under one umbrella. Students need to practise the integrated format, not three separate subject workbooks.

4. Computing — written exam, not coding project

IGCSE Computer Science (0478/0984) has a programming component that is tested differently from the Lower Secondary Computing Checkpoint (0860). The Checkpoint tests algorithmic thinking, pseudocode tracing, and digital literacy in a written paper format — not a practical component. IGCSE Computing revision that focuses on programming projects won't prepare a student for reading and annotating pseudocode on paper.

What Lower Secondary students actually need

The short version: resources that are built against the published 0862 / 0893 / 0860 curriculum frameworks, use Cambridge strand vocabulary, and are formatted to match Checkpoint-style questions and mark schemes.

The market for these is much thinner than the IGCSE market. That's not a surprise — Cambridge Lower Secondary schools are numerous but the consumer revision resource market hasn't caught up to them the way it has for GCSE and A-Level in the UK. Most parents discover this gap when their child reaches Stage 8 or Stage 9 and they start searching for "past papers" or "revision guides" — and find very little.

What to look for Resources aligned to the Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint should state the curriculum framework code (0862 for Maths, 0893 for Science, 0860 for Computing) and should be organised by strand — not by generic year group or a different curriculum standard.

When Save My Exams does become useful

Save My Exams becomes a strong choice from Cambridge IGCSE onwards — typically Year 10 or 11 (ages 14–16). If your child is currently in Stage 9 and will move to IGCSE in the next school year, it's worth bookmarking for then.

There is also a limited use case in Stage 9: for students who want additional concept explanation in Maths (Number, basic Algebra), some Khan Academy or IGCSE-level explanations of the underlying maths concepts are fine as supplementary reading. The problem comes when students start drilling IGCSE-format questions and treating them as Checkpoint practice — the format mismatch trains the wrong habits.
