Khanmigo is Khan Academy's AI tutor for many subjects, from elementary school to college, but its pages tie sign-up to a US billing address and we found no student price or route for India. CoreMark Coach is built only for Cambridge Lower Secondary Stage 9 Maths, Science and Computing and runs in a parent's Claude account.
CoreMark makes CoreMark Coach, so we have a stake here. Khanmigo is made by Khan Academy, and CoreMark has no connection to it. Everything we say about Khanmigo comes from its own pages, checked on 20 October 2026, and we say where we could not find something.
Parents in India often ask about Khanmigo first, because Khan Academy is a name they trust. The comparison is genuinely lopsided in some places and in others it is simply two different jobs. We start with the question that decides most cases: can you buy it at all?
What is Khanmigo?
Khanmigo is Khan Academy's AI tutoring assistant. Its own site calls it "your always-available tutor on just about every topic", and says it can help with "math, science, coding, history, and humanities" for students "from elementary school through college" (khanmigo.ai). It comes from a non-profit with a large library of free lessons and practice, which is a real advantage when your child wants a lesson as well as a conversation.
Parents of under-18 learners must sign up and add their child to the parent account, and the parent page says parents can view their children's chat history and get moderation alerts. That visibility is a strength worth noting.
Can a family in India use Khanmigo for students?
We could not find a way to. Khanmigo's parent page states a price of $4 a month or $44 for an annual plan, and says users must "live in the United States, and have a billing address in the U.S." (khanmigo.ai/parents). We found no student price or sign-up route for India on Khanmigo's own pages, and the pricing page does not name a currency.
What does exist in India is Khanmigo for Teachers. Khan Academy announced that it became available in India in Hindi and English, in an update dated 14 November 2024 (Khan Academy blog). That is a tool for teachers, not for a child studying at home. Policies change, so check Khan Academy's current pages before deciding.
Does Khan Academy line up with Cambridge Lower Secondary?
We found no official Khan Academy page saying it aligns to Cambridge Lower Secondary, and no Cambridge Lower Secondary Maths course on the site (checked 20 October 2026). Khan Academy's material is not wasted for a Cambridge student, since much of the underlying maths overlaps. The difference shows in vocabulary, command words and the way marks are awarded, which Cambridge papers expect and general lessons do not teach. Our post on whether Khan Academy covers Cambridge Lower Secondary goes into the detail.
How do the two compare, side by side?
| Khanmigo | CoreMark Coach | |
|---|---|---|
| Made by | Khan Academy, a non-profit | CoreMark, an independent company |
| Subjects | Many, including maths, science, coding, history and humanities | Stage 9 Maths, Science and Computing |
| Levels | Elementary school to college | Cambridge Lower Secondary Stages 7, 8 and 9 |
| Cambridge Lower Secondary scope | No official alignment found | The whole design |
| Exam-style marking | Not described on its pages | Method and accuracy marks, first wrong step, report by idea |
| Parent visibility | Chat history and moderation alerts for parents | Chats live in the parent's own Claude account |
| Who holds the account | A parent signs up an under-18 learner | A parent's Claude account (Claude requires 18+) |
| Price shown | $4 a month or $44 a year, US billing address required | ₹9,999 for the school year, or ₹4,999 on the early-bird offer (first 100 families, 20 October 2026) |
None of this makes one "better". It shows which job each was built for.
What does Khanmigo do better than Coach?
It covers far more ground. A student who wants help with history, coding or a subject outside Maths, Science and Computing has no equivalent in Coach. Khan Academy also gives children lessons and practice to move between, so the AI is one part of a larger library. Parents get visibility features that are clearly described on Khanmigo's pages. And for a family that can access it, the listed US price is lower than Coach's, though currency, taxes and availability limit that comparison.
What does a Cambridge-specific tutor change in practice?
It changes how an answer is written. A Cambridge paper awards marks for method, so a child who gets the right number with no working can lose marks, and a child with a slip in the last line can still earn most of them. A tutor that only checks final answers does not prepare a student for that.
Coach's Learn mode shows the exam-booklet layout every time. This is the format from its teaching file, using angles as the example:
Step 1: identify the rule (co-interior angles sum to 180 degrees). Step 2: write the equation (x + 40 = 180). Step 3: solve (x = 140 degrees). Final answer: x = 140 degrees [1 mark].
Your child then has to copy that layout in the next practice question. General tutors can teach the same maths, and some will do this if you ask, but you have to ask. The point of a tutor built for one stage is that the habit is already there.
When is Khan Academy plus Khanmigo enough?
It is enough when your child needs general concept help across several subjects, you can access Khanmigo from where you live, and the Cambridge-specific wording of exam questions is something a school or tutor already covers. It is also enough for a younger student who is not yet facing Checkpoint. If any of those three do not hold, a Cambridge-specific tool makes more sense.
What should you ask Khanmigo's support team before paying?
If you can reach Khan Academy, three questions settle most doubts. Ask whether students in your country can sign up with a local billing address. Ask whether any Cambridge Lower Secondary content is planned or listed. And ask what a parent can see, including whether you can read the full conversation or only alerts. Their answers will be more current than anything written here, because pricing and availability change.
Do the same with us. The Coach page lists what is included, and you can write to [email protected] with questions before you buy.
How do you decide in five minutes?
- Try to start a Khanmigo account as a family. If you cannot, the choice is made.
- Ask whether your child needs several subjects, or only Maths, Science or Computing.
- Look at one exam-style question your child got wrong. Does a general explanation fix it, or did they lose marks on working and wording?
- Decide who will run the account and sit in for early sessions.
If you land on Cambridge-specific help with marking, the Coach page shows what is included, and our roundup of practice resources in India covers the cheaper paper options.

Frequently asked questions
We could not find a student route for India. Khanmigo's own pages say users must live in the United States and have a US billing address, and the pricing page shows $4 a month or $44 a year. A teacher version has been available in India in Hindi and English since 14 November 2024. Check Khan Academy's current pages.
We found no official Khan Academy page saying it aligns to Cambridge Lower Secondary, and no Cambridge Lower Secondary Maths course on the site as of 20 October 2026. Its maths content may still help with underlying ideas, but the vocabulary and mark-scheme style of Cambridge papers will differ.
Khanmigo's own learner pages show a price of $4 a month or $44 a year, so the student version is not free. Khan Academy's wider lessons are a separate matter and the site says more about them. Khanmigo for Teachers is described on Khan Academy's blog as free for teachers, though access depends on location.
They are independent products, so a family could use both if Khanmigo is available to them. Coach runs only in Claude from a parent's account and covers Stage 9 Maths, Science and Computing. Khanmigo covers many more subjects. Neither depends on the other.
We cannot rank safety. Khanmigo describes parent chat-history access and moderation alerts. Coach is built to use a first name only, stay on schoolwork and avoid personal details, and runs in a parent's Claude account. Both can make mistakes, and we suggest a parent stays involved with either.
